Buncefield, Hemel Hempstead After The Fuel Depot Explosion

Nicole outside D-B-D. Notice that the explosion has buckled the main doors and roof. The Buncefield fuel depot is to the rear of the D-B-D building, yet other buildings further away from the explosion received much more damage as the photos below show.

The side wall of the D-B-D building. Amazingly, considering how close the building was to the explosion, all the items contained in the warehouse were undamaged! Other companies to the left and right of this building lost almost everything.

The car park in front of D-B-D. The building in the rear is further away from the oil depot, yet it was torn apart by the blast. Why was D-B-D not destroyed also?

This building is a long distance from the explosion, possibly half a mile, yet it is badly damaged

This building, a few hundred yards to the north of the D-B-D building, had only just been completed and will probably now need to be demolished. D-B-D is to the left of this building and the fuel depot is to the rear. Maybe the sign (far left) should read, "Completed Nov 2005 - Destroyed 11 Dec 2005"
